Roller Racer® - Sport Model
The peppy Sport Model is perfect for group activities!
Tell Me More
Manufactured and warranted for use in schools and day care centers, PE teachers agree that the Roller Racer® provides a fun and healthful activity for children ages 3-12. No motor! No batteries! No pedaling! The “rams-horn” design of the handlebars provides a safe environment for group games. Tubular steel handlebars and a heavy-duty, molded seat are rugged features of the Sport Model. Hand grips are latex-free. Sturdy enough to hold 200 pounds, it comes completely assembled and with a one year warranty. Sit down with feet on the bar and swing from side to side…the Roller Racer® is totally maneuverable and turns on its own radius. Improve strength and flexibility through the fun and challenge of group challenges and cooperative games. Riders can interact with each other, flying through obstacle courses, playing bumper cars, and competing in races.
Totally “Kid-Powered” with a low “no-tip” center of gravity for safety, the Sport Model of the Roller Racer® is low to the ground with no sharp edges or spokes. It is probably one of the safest ride-ons for ages 3 to 12. We recommend that children wear shoes and a helmet. Always ride seated with feet on the handlebar. Responsibly refrain from riding on or near inclines, stairs, bodies of water or roadways. The Sport Model of the Roller Racers® is ready to ride right out of the box. It can be ridden on any hard, smooth surface: outdoors on concrete and asphalt; indoors on tile, linoleum and gym floors. The non-marring polyurethane wheels are absolutely safe for hardwood floors.
What about the materials? We are CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008) approved and certified. Independent materials testing was conducted by St. Louis Testing Laboratories to ensure that our product materials are SAFE.
Originally designed by a retired Boeing engineer in the 1970’s…this grandfather used his engineering know-how and a tractor seat he found on his farm to create a prototype model for his grandson. Look closely and you will see how the the Roller Racer® seat of today resembles the shape of yesterday’s tractor seat.
In Brentwood, Tennessee, American workers produce this very high quality product. We put a lot of love and care into every scooter and it shows. The Sport Model of the Roller Racer® is a vehicle you can pass down to your grandchildren. Perhaps you are one of many adults who remembers riding one as a child.
How’s It Go?
We’re still trying to figure this one out! The unique method of propulsion has made our scooter the subject of studies in Experimental Nonlinear Physics around the world.
The scientific explanation goes something like this:
“The front wheels of the machine are connected to the handlebars by a lever, in such a way that they are located behind the axis of rotation of the steering column. This means that a torque applied to the handlebars will cause a lateral friction force by the wheels on the ground, a force parallel to the axle and perpendicular to the direction the wheels are rolling. If a component of this force points to the back of the car, the reaction force of the ground on the car (by Newton’s “action/reaction” law) points partly forward and accelerates the car. This is the force that drives the car forward and it ultimately comes from the force you exert on the handlebars, magnified by the lever advantage, which is 2 or 3 for the Roller Racer®”.
Now, can you repeat that?
In summary, kids put their hands and feet on the handlebars which pivot in relation to the seat and work the handlebars for propulsion by vectored torque thrust making the front wheels want to skate forward.
